October 2013
“Being one of the main objectives of Galeria Casa Lamm to document the exhibitions in print, this commemorative book, Artists of Casa Lamm in their workshops, in which there is a selection of plastic creators from various disciplines, with images in their work spaces and workshops. ”
Juanita Pérez develops from the beginning a language that borders the abstract and the use of simple and elegant geometric forms, in which she intercalates signs and symbols that achieve a poetic innuendo.
Layer upon layer audacious, voluptuous colors superimposed on handmade amate paper and combined with indigenous textiles to create balanced, highly structured geometrical compositions. Pérez is a simple, yet graceful abstract language of a poetic bent that mixes signs and symbols and that invites us to read between the lines, to look beyond that which is visible to the naked eye. These are the trademarks of her paintings, which are meant to be touched with the gaze and seen with the heart, mirrors into the artist’s soul, which is as inseparable from her art as her life.
For Pérez, the day begins with a yoga class and a session of meditation before getting down to business in her sun-flooded studio in Tepoztlán, Morelos. She looks up from her work now and then only to admire the Tepozteco Mountain in the distance.
