Art In Embassies Program
May 2001
American Art Exhibition at the Residence of the U.S. Ambassador in Mexico City, Jeffery Davidow.
Inspired by the Mayan weavings she saw on a trip to Guatemala, Juanita Pérez-Adelman, a naturalized U.S. citizen of Colombian origin, began painting bright designs on her own handmade amate paper to create the illusion of woven material.
The rich texture of her work replicates the intricacy and profound artistry of Mayan culture. Her collection of Huipil paintings, one of her many subjects, demonstrates her skill as an artist and engraver as well as her imaginative, poetic, individuality.
